Quite simply, this is the hardest game that has ever been made. I have heard all of the arguments for Battletoads, certain Ninja Gaiden iterations, Contra (without the cheat), and I have played all of them…but never have I been nearly as frustrated with a game as I have with this one. I know what you are thinking, if it’s that frustrating why don’t you quit, and that is the beauty of this game. Even though it is the most challenging game I’ve ever attempted, it gives you just enough to make you believe you have hope, and then yanks that notion right out from under you at the last second every time. The visuals on this game are a nod to the old 8 bit NES days, they aren’t spectacular by any means, but the get the point across, are crisp, clean, and perfectly fit the gameplay style. There are a few glitches here and there, falling through platforms and such but none are anywhere near game breaking and don’t happen often at all. The replay value of this game is also fairly good, with the added bonus of timed speed runs to bring you back…and thats after the months it will take you to beat it in the first place. The game is fun and pretty humorous and has multiple enemies and elements that are clearly throwbacks to the classic games we know and love, Dracula form Castlevania, and Mike Tyson from Punchout make appearances as enemies to name a few. There are three difficulty modes which are unique in that they don’t actually change the difficulty of the game levels, but add more checkpoints throughout. Not much to offer in the way of story here, there is one but it’s so boring I can’t remember what it is. The game opts for the, get you straight into the gameplay, option instead. This game is an incredible value at the low, low price of free, and even though you will be so angry playing it sometimes that you want to kick a puppy off of a bridge, you won’t be able to put it down.
